The Council for Exceptional Children is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities - students with disabilities and/or the gifted. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides continual professional development, advocates for underserved individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

The Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders is a division of the Council for Exceptional Children dedicated to promoting and facilitating the education and general welfare of children and youth with emotional or behavioral disorders. CCBD advocates for the needs of children and youth and their families, encourages research and professional growth as vehicles for better understanding of emotional or behavioral disorders, and provides professional support for persons who are involved with and serve children and youth with emotional or behavioral disorders.
