The Autism Society of America was founded in 1965 by a small group of
parents working on a volunteer basis out of their homes. The Society has
developed into the leading source of information and referral on autism.
ASA is dedicated to increasing public awareness about autism and the day-to-day
issues faced by individuals with autism and their families. The Society
and its chapters share a common mission of providing information and education,
supporting research, and advocating for programs and services for the
autism population.

The Learning Disabilities Association of America is a national, non-profit
organization that is dedicated to identifying causes and promoting prevention
of learning disabilities. LDA is committed to enhancing the quality of
life for all individuals with learning disabilities by encouraging effective
identification and intervention, fostering research, and protecting their
rights under the law.

The Council for Exceptional Children is the largest international professional
organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals
with exceptionalities - students with disabilities and/or the gifted.
CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional
standards, provides continual professional development, advocates for
underserved individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals
obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.

The Illinois State Board of Education's website can keep you informed
of the latest happenings in education in Illinois. Whether you are interested
in issues related to funding for education, certification, assessment,
learning standards, or school construction, the ISBE website can provide
you with information on these topics and many more.

The Illinois Alliance of Administrators of Special Education is a non-profit
corporation organized to promote quality education for all students and
provide an organizational structure through which students with disabilities
are represented at a local, state, and national level. The mission of
IAASE is to provide members a professional forum that motivates, education,
provides solutions, and inspires.
The Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders - www.ccbd.net
The Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders is a division of the
Council for Exceptional Children dedicated to promoting and facilitating
the education and general welfare of children and youth with emotional
or behavioral disorders. CCBD advocates for the needs of children and
youth and their families, encourages research and professional growth
as vehicles for better understanding of emotional or behavioral disorders,
and provides professional support for persons who are involved with and
serve children and youth with emotional or behavioral disorders.

Infinitec, which stands for Infinite Potential through Assistive Technology,
is a non-profit corporation formed to help people with disabilities and
their families access life-enhancing assistive technology. Infinitec is
a joint effort of United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Chicago and United
Cerebral Palsy Association, Inc., Washington, D.C. and builds on technology-access
programs offered by UCP affiliates around the nation.
